About Me

Hi, I am Rainer Schuster

Founder and Mastermind of RSIT
I received my PhD in business informatics from the Vienna University of Technology in 2010. My PhD thesis focuses on the requirements management for B2B systems. Most parts of this thesis concentrates on my work within the UN/CEFACT (United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business) standardization group, in which I contributed from 2006-2010.

However, research, teaching and the Vienna University of Technology are still important pillars of my business. I am currently part-time employed as a lecturer at the Institute for Software Technology and Interactive Systems (Electronic Commerce Group) at the Vienna University of Technology. My research interest focuses on eTourism, eCommerce and eMarketing. Those topics are the main topics of my current lecture eCommerce.

As a son of a winery and an IT-guy, I was impressed by the “digitalization” of wine. In the recent years, the wine business has changed and the sales switch over to other new channels, such as the Internet. That’s why I founded, together with colleagues at the TU Vienna, the first Austrian Wine Marketplace for Wine called AVINO. Currently AVINO is more than just a Start-Up idea and over 350 wineries are selling their wines via this marketplace.

Apart from wine, my other passion is traveling and that’s why eTourism and Booking Engines are core parts of my business. As a result of a research project I developed together with Prof. Hannes Werthner from the TU Vienna, the first picture based search and recommendation engine for the tourism and hospitality domain, which is called PixMeAway. And, last but not least, since Booking Engines are experiencing more and more a “hype”, we developed a booking engine that allows an individual communication between the hotel and the guest. This new and innovative product is called RoomBonus.

My aim for founding RSIT as a software and consulting company was to bring smart people together in order to cover the full process of a software product – from requirements engineering to implementation. Most of the people working for me are from TU Vienna and work on a freelance-basis for RSIT, some of them are fixed employed.

Since 2003, I was involved in more than 100+ IT projects (yes, I counted them!). Those projects span from small websites for SMEs to huge SW development projects for companies with 30.000 employees. So, I can say that I have seen a lot of ups- and downs, do’s and don’ts and that’s why I gained a lot of experience.
